Halifax Mobile Food Market
Progressive cities around the world are coming up with innovative ways to bring fresh and affordable vegetables and fruit to neighbourhoods that have limited access to healthy food. At the same time, significant momentum was growing to pilot Halifax’s first mobile healthy food market.
In the Winter and Spring of 2015 New Leaf worked closely with Public Health Services and Halifax Regional Municipality to support the launch of a Mobile Market. Sera Thompson lead a vibrant engagement strategy which served to build connections, relationships, shared clarity and momentum with community partners and private business. Through targeted stakeholder interviews and a vibrant community forum which built the foundation for a governance and delivery model a committed team was identified and funding secured. Mobile Food Markets are now a reality in five Halifax communities.
